How much hd space could I save by converting my 4GB Mpeg2 file to DivX without loosing quality? And what common apps (or free) will play the DivX file format?
Big Government is Big Business.. just without a product and at twice the price... after all if the opposite of pro is con then wouldn’t the opposite of progress be congress?

Artifact free quality? 4GB to 2GB. Virtually artifact free? 4GB to 1.5GB

A lot depends on the source. Quality and how much action/camera movement/explosions, etc. It als depends on whether you stay interlaced or go progressive.

  3. Of course, you can't convert to any lossy format with _NO_ loss of quality. But Gazorgan's numbers are about right.

Regarding player software, just about any player will play DIVX files in Windows if you have the codec installed.
