  1. I bought a 10 pack of Memorex 4x DVD+R 4.7GB & Memorex 4x DVD-R 4.7GB and even thought my dive is a DVD-+Ram drive is 16x the discs only burn at 2x. I also confirmed that my programs were set at MAX burn. DVDDecrypter also reads the as 2x. Can anyone give me any suggestions. TIA

You need to supply more info. U sure ur burner is a + and - and RAM ? hmmmm. Also, whats dvdinfo say? U try another burn proggy?
Do any other 4x media burn at 4x or 8x? U sure ur drive is 16x write? (dont think so)
Memorex do suck, but Im not sure media is the culprit here.

Nero Infotool, or DVDInfoPro will both tell you what your drive is, and its capabilities.

Don't you mean 16X ROM, it will read a DVD at 16X? That's typical for a ROM drive, and most burners, also.

    Cheers,

    George

If you got stuck with a 25 pack of CMC DVD+R's, they do not work well at all, most will not burn at more than 2.4 X and many will fail.

You have to try and get the Richo DVD+R's from Memorex, those work every time for me at 4X.

If you do a search on Memorex DVD+R in the forum, you will find many posts on CMC vs. Richo's.

    Chip,

Your post says you do, indeed, have a combination that reads/writes DVD-RAM., the D:\ drive. A106.

Iam not trying to put anyone down, here but everyone and his uncle is telling everyone and his Uncle to not buy anything that is not this that, or the other, stamped "Made in Japan".

Well, damn it, you ain't gonna buy anything in the stores "Made in Japan" except Fuji -Rs.

I just came from BB and every other package of disks there are stamped "Made in Taiwan", including Fuji +R and RWs. Imation, Memorex, TDK, you name it, if they carried it, it was a Taiwan product. Ditto OfficeMax.

So, now where do you go? People in other threads say you order from this source, this brand, and pray that your cakebox will be a Japan product. That is a load of horse puckey. If it is supposed to be Japanese product, except it might not be, what's your recourse, ask the vendor to read a few and only send the RicohJPN? Go over big, I'm sure.

What I buy is what I burn, and if my 8X or 4X liteons can't burn at more than 2.4X, well, guess I'll have to wait till it's done. That or throw them away, and I sure as hell ain't gonna do that.

Maybe an update to your firmware would help.

    Cheers,

    George

  10. Memorex 4X +R discs made by Ricoh are good discs. I've burned a shitload of them with no problems.

Memorex 4X -R discs made by CMC are pure garbage. I could not make them burn above 1X reliably, and the disc surfaces looked funny.

  13. I have the same LG 4040B drive but with A302 (the latest) firmware and can burn @ Memorex DVD+R 4x (Ricoh/CMC) without a hic cup. I have burned over 150 discs and still going strong. This is an excellent drive!

sure...go to http://ca.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp and click on device drivers, then choose cd-rw and look for 4040b a302 firmware.

    Take care!

George... Walmart, Maxell, Made in Japan ... can't get any easier than that. Also Made in Singapore is good.

But yes, RITEK from Taiwan are good, so the "Taiwan is bad" idea isn't flawless, though still a good way to stay careful.

Could be. But these discs look like the dye didn't spread real evenly during the spin-up process. I bought, oh, 4 or 5 batches over a few weeks and they all had the same problem.

Optorite is picky, no argument there. But these discs probably wouldn't work for trap shooting either, they were so ugly.
