  1. Can anybody shed any light on this…….

I shall sum up what been going on in my life:

    1- Bought ASUS DRW-0402P and 25 “Discrite” (Princo) 4x cake tin. (-R)
2- Wrote 10 ish at 4x, no problem.
    3- Updated firmware to 1.30
4- Wrote 10 more at 4x, no problem.
5- Suddenly, no apparent reason, discs switch to 1x (no option even for 2x) in Nero 5.24
    6- Reinstalled XP, no joy.
    7- Send drive back.
8- Drive deemed fine and returned to me.
9- Still no Joy. Send back again.
10- Company replace with LITEON 411S (nice drive)
11- Discs still only recognised as 1x!!!
12- Sample discs in packaging for writer work as 4X with no problems.

So my question is, why would a box of 4x discs suddenly change to 1x, and has anyone seen this before?????

    Thanks

Download DVDInfo and see what speed the media reports as being. You may have gotten a mixed batch of media.

  3. Right.....

Done as requested soundforbjt, and here are the results.
This is one of the 16 I have left that will not go above 1X.
Not realy suprising if the Write Strategy Speed is set to 1

    Both the discs are PRINCO....
I have tested all 16 discs that are left, and the all come up as 1X

So does your theory ring true?
If so, does anyone want some free poo discs!

All I have to do is find the smae discs that came with the LITEON writer (RICOHJPN01) as they work in my Denon ADV1000 *AND* my Samsung 709, which is a miricle as the 709 would never play anything other than an original!!!!

You should ask for replacements on those 1X dvd-r's as you paid for 4X's.

If you live in the U.S. , I think that Memorex's 4x DVD+R's are actually Ricoh's. Office Depot recently had a sale on these, also check Compusa as they run sales on these also.

  5. "Available Write Descriptor" displayed under DVDInfo Pro is the available write speed for the burner.

Currently both TDK and Memorex 4X DVD+R discs also have the same "RICOHJPNR01" media code just in case you want to find some more.

  6. Thanks!!!

I live in the UK, so I'll have to see what's about.
In a perfect world, I would like to get just 1 disc and test it first, but most UK online stores just sell bulk packs.

If anyone knows of any UK shops that they think are good then give me a shout!

I'm off to play 16 rounds of frizby with my dog Jack!!!

I have just bought a tub of 20 Discrite 2x -R DVDs that are showing as 1x using DVDInfo in my Pioneer 106. I am stuck at this, or is there anyway to 'trick' the burner to a higher speed? 1x is just so slow :P . Discs were a bargin though, £6.20 for 20 (offer at a trade shop). Not sure if I will buy more, a speed/cost trade-off. 2X I would have lived with
