  1. I saw a Philips DVDR 72 at Costco for $349 today. I've searched all over but can't find anything about it. Has anyone here had any experience with it, or knows how it compares to the model 75?

I've also noticed people have purchased from eBay and other sources. One thing that is good about Costco is that, according to their customer service manager I talked to a while back, they will accept all items for return except for computers. He said it covers everything, even lightning strikes (a common problem here in Florida).

This is really a good deal since it's a de facto replacement plan for no extra charge, except for the $49/year membership fee. If you have a Costco in your area it's definitely worth checking out. From now on I plan to purchase all electronics from Costco, even if it costs a little more....

  2. Must be an old model, but just try left column on this page where it says dvd writers & recorders, search for 'Philips' about 30 hits show up.

Places like SAM'S CLUB and COSTCO often get things made for them with model numbers that don't exist elsewhere.

I've read about this and seen it before. I remember a TOSHIBA brand stand alone DVD player that had a model number very similiar but different from the model you bought at all the other retail/on-line stores.

  5. I was wondering if it was really a model 75, since it looks the same as far as I could tell....

  6. If it look like a DVDR75, does it have a firewire input under the front flip down flap?

If so, it could be a 75, if not it could be the DVDR70 (which is identical to the 75 save for the firewire input)

The specs for the 72 and 75 are almost identical. You can read them here:

    72: http://www.dvdplusrw.org/video/manuals/dvdr72_us_manual.pdf (specs are on page 69)

    75: http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/d/dvdr75_17/dvdr75_17_pss_aen.pdf

  9. When compared to the manual for the DVDR75, it seems they're identical. The manuals are page for page the same, with only minor changes in the wording.

    Thanks mucho!

  10. Thanks for the info! It looks like the only differences are in choices of recording modes and favorite scenes selections. Beyond that they're pretty much the same....
