This device that I bought on clearance works great except for one thing. Its great cause it has a three hour buffer and i can rewind to a certain point all i want. Now the problem is this. Every so often when i go to rewind the recorder, it reverts back to the beginning of the entire three hour zone and remains frozen. kinda like the pause button is stuck except pause was never pressed. I have to unplug the device thus losing everything in that buffer.
Any help would be most appreciative.

Welcome to the forums, but I don't understand why you thought that posting to a "DVD Players" section was better than posting to the "DVD Recorders" section, which is right above it in the forum list. Posting to the correct forum is always the best way to get help.
From what I've read, various Philips DVD recorders have some nasty quirks. Some have been known to rewrite on DVD+/-RW discs AFTER they finish recording something and thus erase what they just recorded. Perhaps this freezing is a known problem on your player. You can look for
firmware updates on the Philips website and there might be a firmware update that fixes this problem.
