  1. Is it possible, any hacks or software that does this or is upgrading to 10.3 the only option? VLC plays unmounted DVD+R so the computer is "seeing" the discs in some sense.

System is a 350mhz G4/Yikes with Lacie Firewire DVD burner (Pioneer 106.)

im surprised you can even get that far!

i think your only option is to get a external/internal +/- drive and 10.3.x

    i could be wrong though

  3. The drive is +/- and the slightly weird (to me) thing is that I can burn *to* DVD+R discs which play on my DVD player, but when I put them (or any DVD+R disc) back in the Lacie Drive they don't mount. I guess the computer is just sending digital information to the burner and doesn't care what kind of blank disc is present.

Sounds like 10.3.x may be the only answer which leads to another question. I'm using the hack which allows Apple DVD player to work on an external DVD drive, does anyone know whether ADP still works in 10.3 with this hack?

  4. I also run 10.2.8 and had the same problem. I solved it by booting into OS 9.1, drag /drop the VIDEO_TS folder to an external firewire HD, and then reboot to OS X and burn a -R copy using Toast Titanium 6.03. OS 9.1 was able to mount/recognize the +R disc just fine.

  5. Get DVDPlusTool at versiontracker. It will mount the DVD+R disk to the desktop and then you can use Toast to copy it. This is for OS X!

PS: Toast 6 at least needed

PPS: You can take the Pioneer out of the Firewire case and install it internally then OS X will recognize it as a superdrive.

I can't install Apple DVD Player 2.x on my Mac

Apple DVD Player 2.x Installer check your machine ID to understand if your Mac has DVD capabilities. Only suported Mac can install Apple DVD Player (ADP) using Appler DVD Player 2.x Installer.
Installing ADP on unsupported machines requires to extract files using Tome Viewer and then install manually into correct folder.

    ADP Manual Installation

Create My Apple DVD folder on your hard disk
    Mount ADP Image
Search for DVD Software Tome inside ADP Disk Image
Open DVD Software Tome with Tome Viewer
Extract files to My Apple DVD folder
Move following files to specified folder:
DVD Runtime Lib -> Extensions folder
    DVD AutoLuncher -> Extensions folder
DVD Navigation Manager ATI -> Extensions folder
DVD Navigation Manager NV -> Extensions folder
DVD Region Manager -> Extensions folder
DVD Video Interface -> Extensions folder
    Required software

Only thing is that you still cant use iDVD on an external drive though

    Hope that helps

  7. Thanks for the responses.

Copying in OS9.2.2 seemed to work, though I haven't tested the discs thoroughly.

I already had DVDplustool but it isn't compatible with my drive.

I think the posted ADP hack is for OS9. There is one for OSX also which I have, and ADP works for me in 10.2.8. But sometimes apple "fixes" things so such hacks don't work any more when you upgrade the OS - wasn't sure if it would still work in 10.3
