  2. Excellent choice. Not sure if Newegg.com ships there, but that's where I got mine. $99US right now...
Morpheus - I remember that I am here not because of the path that lies before me, but because of the path that lies behind me.

The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

My last experience with online shopping was less than satisfactory so I am after a little face to face purchase this time !!

You could try PC World - they often have stuff that ins't listed on their web site.

Just because you got bummed by Overclockers shouldn't put you off buying online - there's plenty of choice:

  7. On the front page, top right corner, it says where you can get it cheapest & the price is displayed & you click on it, input your zip code, it scans all the stores gives you the prices & best price with shipping & tax. Sometimes it doesn't display on the main page but I see it often.

No I don't have a little face but that doesn't mean I'm not strange looking :P

Picked up an NEC yesterday at Opal Computers. Already backup my Spaced Series 1 DVD no problems.

I have put the NEC on IDE3 (RAID or ATA compatible) and noticed that the buffer drops to 9% whilst burning. Is this nomal ?

Is IDE 3 a RAID connection? If so, move it to the IDE 2 cable - optical devices and RAID don't mix well, as I discovered when burning with my Sony was using up 100% of the CPU for no good reason.

I got one at accupc, and when it had a problem, they sent a replacement no questions asked.
I will patronize them in the future surely.

Yes IDE3 is a RAID connection, but I already have a CDRW and a DVD Rom drive plus 2 HDD using up my IDE1 & 2 connections, so I was hoping to just plug the NEC into one of the remaining 2 IDE slots. Is this a non starter ? The drive works fine but I do notice the buffer drops wildly whilst burning to CDR or DVDR

Take the slave HD off IDE 1 and put it on IDE 3.

The general concensus is that DVD burners should be set as masters, so move whatever is master on IDE 2 to be the slave on IDE 1 and then put the NEC in its place.

Personally, I'd ditch the CDRW altogether as the NEC will probably burn CDs just as fast.

I might end up ditching the CDRW but I will try moving the swapping a HDD for the NEC and see what happens.

    I was gonna go with

    IDE1 Master HDD
    IDE1 Slave HDD

    IDE2 Master NEC
    IDE2 Slave DVDRom

Will this be OK ? I am gonna ditch the CDRW even though it looks cool with 3 Drive trays on the front of my tower 8)

  16. Buy a cheap £10-£20 PCI ide card and you can add another 2/4 devices or keep your beloved CDRW.

I didn't think of that I was just hoping to be able to use the existing IDE3 & 4 to add devices. I may get a PCI card on the weekend.
