I have a dell axim 5 pocket pc with 2002 operating system. Downloaded pocket Divx version .8 and I can't get the device to play a xvid made with fair use software. Windows media player pocket pc 8.5 won't play either. Do I need to get a code?

What are the keys to able to play movies with a pocket pc?

what is the difference between xvid, divx and avi?

    thanks

    1. Download the newest version of PocketMVP at www.corecodec.com
    2. Install it on your pocketpc
    3. Encode your video with a bitrate of about 200-250.
    4. Prerotate your video (with virtualdub)
    5. If your pocketpc is slow, consider to decimate the framerate by 2 (with virtualdub)
    6. Install the file on your pocketpc (or memorycard)
    7. Have fun !

An AVI file is a containerformat, it contains Audio and Video Interleaved.
XVID and DIVX are codecs, they are a way of compressing the video.

    Hope this helps

  3. I whole heartedly agree with Firk99 about PMVP.

PMVP will play both Divx and Xvid (any Mpeg4 stream) it will play MP3 and Ogg Vorbis Audio.

If you want to try your hand at encoding with Xvid and Ogg Vorbis check out this post I posted over there http://www.corecodec.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=559
