  1. Hey, masters of movies,

    Got this AVI, and the corresponding SRT (converted to SSA)

    GSpot tells me this :

    video = 4CC : vxid
    Bitrate : 923kb/s
    FPS : 23.976

    audio = MPEG-1 Layer 3
    Bitrate : 136kb/s VBR LAME 3.95 48000Hz

    I use VirtualDub to add the subtitles.

    As soon as I open the AVI file as source, VirtualDub is protesting on the
    Audio ("improper VBR audio encoding... will rewrite header with standard CBR...may introduce up to 125035 ms of skew...").

    If I continue with the process, the final result (after 2.5 hours of encoding) : a new AVI, with subtitles that are sync, but the audio
    is running ahead, some 3 seconds.

    Not exactly what I want : I can hear people walking through the kitchen, but I have to wait 3 seconds to see them ...

    Any suggestions ? Please ....?

    Thanks,

    Martin.

  2. There are other versions of virtualdub that support variable bit rate audio,

    Do a search.

    I've used VirtualdubMPEG (Supports MPEGs), Virtualdudmod etc...

    I think there is a version with all the variants rolled into 1 this should do what you want.

    I've had pretty good luck using Virtualdub MP3 Freeze for VBR audio. If you don't want to re-encode the movie you should decompress the original audio to wav, open your encoded avi and select "Direct Stream Copy" for video and "WAV Audio" for audio and use the PCM wav you created, then what ever mp3 bitrate you want to use for compression. Save as AVI and cross your fingers while the new audio is muxed with the old video.
