I've got it narrowed to Maxells or Taiyo Yuden's. I'm tending to go with the TY's. I've got a Pioneer A06 and Epson R300.
I have ordered a couple of jewel case samples of the Maxell 4x from pcconnection.com. I just am worried of buying the 50 spindle. I have a sneaky suspicion that the jewel singles will be different than what's on the bulk spindles. Not worried about fake Maxells....just inconsistent manufacturers.
Money is no issue here...frustration avoidance is my #1 goal.
Any experience with stand-alone player compatibility and/or print quality with either of these media? These are inkjet printable 4x dvd-r's.
Thanks ahead of time

I actually received my 2nd 50 disc spindle of maxell 4x inkjet printables from CDW.com They were around $95. Been pleased with them so far.
-
Thanks, that's the best price for a big retailer....a requirement if I go Maxell.
How do they print? -
They print fine. I have an epson 960.
They are branded on the inner hub though. -
Appreciate the replies....
I just got my Maxell singles today....I'll try them out. Found a good price from what looks like a decent seller (pretty positive reviews on resellerratings.com):
http://www.shopperwiz.com/shopdisplaydetail.asp?id=96732275
They also have some good prices on Verbatim and others. No TY though. I'll post my results...cause I got 2 pretty picky DVD players. -
ezzye23,
Got my Maxell jewel case samples and they work great in both my stubborn players. I'm very pleased.
One question: Are the 50 spindles the same media code as the singles? (MXLRG02) -

the link that you supplied is for Maxell White matt discs. At first I looked at them and thought what a great price for Maxell printable discs; however, after seeing that this site lists, for individula sale, Maxell inkjet white matt finish, I wonder if there is a differnce between the two. Not all white matt surfaces are inkjet printable.
Did the retailer confirm with you that the 50 pack is inkjet printable?
Thanks

they do look printable. Just google the Maxell part #635129
here's CDW's description:

Yes these are indeed inkjet printable, it says so in the info box on that cdw link.
The first spindle of 50 I got around say 2-3 months ago said MXLRG01 and this new spindle I received a couple weeks ago are MXLRG02 -

95 dollars for 50 discs.
I order 100 Ritek inkjet printables 4x discs from Rima for 92 dollars. They are great too. -
95 bucks was good a year ago....
I tried the Riteks (both printable and silver top G04's) and they haven't performed well on my DVD players. The later half of my burns pixelate, skip and freeze. It's not necessarily bad media, just not good for me.
Thanks for the suggestion though. -
hello Lobe
I never thought of searching by the Maxell part number. On Monday I will definitely be ordering some. I fall into the small group on this list that has not had good results with Ritek/Ridata.
Thanks

hififan...yeah, the part number matches the Maxell website inkjet printables part number....I've tried 3 jewel case singles and they are solid.
I'm just wondering if the spindles are MXL's, like the jewel case. Maxell maybe branding the spindles from another manufacturer...my biggest fear.
Oh, one thing about shopperwiz.com....I've done some research on them...they rate well in most review sites, unless you want to ship to an address different than billing. Seems they want you to submit dna samples or something before they'll approve. The price for that spindle dropped about 25 bucks last week too. -
my only problem with Maxell's is the last batch I got in those 15 packs- (still made in japan and 4x, yellow tops, the good stuff) from OD, is that even thought they were in Maxell shrink many had finger prints and scratches, the top disc was disgusting! Also imperfections in the dye can easily be seen--looks like a pen mark in the dye. Still they burn and verify 100% so far, not sure I'll try the nasty top one.
Poor quality control/handling... I think I'm back to the TY's... -
I've read about that in the media comments....Jitzking had some similar experiences. Said there were finger prints, smudges, etc. Hopefully, this is just a few isolated instances.
Anyway, I did get to burn a TY (non-printable), and the playback was as good. If I had a Liteon/Kprobe, I would be able to tell which one burns the "best" on my system. CDspeed shows very similar tests.
Obviously, price is also a factor....and at $60US/50, Maxells are cheaper than any TY's that I can find. But if QC issues come into play...I wouldn't think twice about going TY. -
thanks for the information on that shopperwiz.com. I placed an order and I will let you know how the discs are. This is a really good price for printable maxells.

I couldn't wait either....placed an order this weekend. I'm pretty impressed with the compatibility of my samples....print quality is good...no color smudges or running like some previous posts have mentioned.
I've even coated them with Krylon (child proofing), and they play like a champ on my GoVideo dvp855....the biggest piece of crap ever built (but my wife got it for 5 bucks at a junk sale).....just need a remote for it. -

Thank you for supplying that link for the Maxell discs. I ordered 50 and they arrived today. I've already burned 8 with no problems and all play back perfectly. I just went back to the site and ordered 3 more 50 packs.
The media id code is MXL RG02
I certainly had hoped to pay a lot less, but since inkjet printable Ritek/Ridata discs did not work for me and Supermediastore has not responded to two emails inquiring about my refund [they have had my return for over a week], I am glad to have found a new merchant in shopperbiz.com.

Yeah, got mine yesterday....already filled in a comment in the media section. I'm tickled about the compatibility of these things. I don't think a $1.20/disk is too bad for printables of this quality.
I'm going to stick with these, and probably get some Taiyo Yuden DVD+R printables for my Liteon.
