I use verbatim and Maxell only. Maxell mostly but i bought a 100 spindle for $22.
Has anybody noticed a color difference on the top it usually are a shiney gold,
the new ones are darker and not as shiney as all the other maxell (400+) i have used.

    Any comments?
Are they the same or are they being made somewhere else?

Maxell is known for changing manufacturing plants. Could be they were made at a new location. Have you read the Media ID off the discs to see who actually makes them?

Use DVD Identifier or DVDInfoPro to read Media ID codes.

The only truly good Maxell DVD media left is their Plus and Broadcast Quality series. The Plus series isn't too badly priced and can either be Taiyo Yuden or Maxell's own discs made in Japan. The Broadcast Quality discs are fairly expensive because they add a hardcoating to prevent scratches (up to $2 each, sold with cases only). I actually bought some of the BQ discs and they are pretty darn good, and they are hard to scratch.
