  1. VCD resolution is 352x240 for storage, but it's obviously different upon playback. What is it?

    When you encode the MPEG, you have to set aspect ratio (usually 4:3) and resolution. The TV screen will display it as full screen.

    It plays back at 704x480 on your tv.

  4. It just occurred to me... VCD's don't use square pixels either. It must be 704x480 with a 4:3 ratio.

  5. Well, it doesn't really play back at 704x480 on the TV because TVs don't have pixels. The concept of "pixels" isn't really appropriate for TV displays.

    Just think of S/VCDs playing in full screen on the TV at a DAR of 4:3.
