    Can anyone tell me how to convert anamorphic DV footage to non anamoprphic either with black bars top and bottom or the sides cut off???

    You could try a "mask" in Quicktime Pro, to resize the image. You can also add black bars above and below the image with QTPro, although it's pretty fiddly stuff. Depends what you're doing with it what would be the best solution.

    I just want people to be able to watch my anamorphically shot footage on a 4:3 tv without people being stretched.

    How do I add black bars in QTPro???

    I'm rather ignorant about this, but doesn't the DVD player add the black bars to an anamorphic video being shown on a 4:3 screen?

    It should, unless the dvd player is set to 16:9 or 4:3 Pan & Scan.
    If it isn't broken, take it apart and find out why.

    I tried pan&scan which didn't work but didn't try 4:3 setting. I had assumed this needed encoded but I will give at try tonight.

    I will feel slightly silly if this resolves it.....
