I've had great sucess with my first order of Sky DVD-R 4x media code "AN31" on my Sony DRU-500A. I ordered 100 pieces and they all burned at 4x and played back without a problem. I got them from www.yesbuy.net

I just ordered another 100 pieces of the same Sky DVD-R 4x media. I can't get even one to burn out of 50, they all give me a "power calibration error" as soon as the burner enters the write stage. I checked the media ID and it's differant. They sent "AN32" media code instead of the "AN31" I received the first time. I contacted yesbuy.net and they are going to exchange them immediately.

My question is why is there so much differance between codes "AN31" and "AN32" when they are from the same manufacture (Sky Media)?

I bought some of these Eworks AN32 media(Sky). So far they've burnt well in my Pioneer 105. No coasters, but they freeze up in my PS2. No problems in my other two standalones, yet. It seems that the firmware in you're Sony isn't compatible with the AN32. May need to be upgraded,or just stick with other media that works.

Seems to me that the AN32 media was indeed compatable with the Pioneer burners. Your statement conferms that. Freezing up in the PS2 is causes by the mod chip you have. The latest DMS and Magic 3.1 chips work with AN32 I believe. Of course Ritek is the best choice with PS2's.

My Sony burner is at the latest firmware (2.0G I believe) so i'll have to stick with media that works.

  4. I bought 100 of the 2x DVD-R and had a 100% success rate. Then I got 100 of the Sky 4x DVD-R and not one will burn at 4X on either my Pioneer or Sony drives. They do burn just fine at 2X and no coaster so far.

Anyone ever try the Sky 4X DVD+R?

That's what I'm talking about. The same manufacture but one batch will work the other will not. Check the media cade, that will tell you for sure.

As far as you not being able to burn at 4x, you probably need to update your firmware.

  6. Well I bought 200 of Matrix with code AN31 and not one has burn. The reason I bought so many was I bought Matrix before 50 with no problem turns out those were code longhorn 001. So no I have to send them back or try to sell them to some one that can burn AN31. I have a Sony 500 also with a 2.0H firmware

  9. I have not tried the media but if you search AN32 in the media data (on the left side of your screen) the responses are generally favorable.

I recently (two weeks ago) purchased a spindle of 100 of the Sky 4x DVD-R media from yesbuy.net. They are "AN31", and so far I have burned two of them on my Pioneer 106 and another 6 on my Nec2500A. All results have been good. These are the cheapest disks I have ever purchased, and so far I am well pleased. Now I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that the rest burn as well as the first few.

I bought a 100pk of the 2x dvd-r and just finished burning through them. All disks burned fine on my 1300a with fw1.0A. The only problem I have with the disks is that a couple of them have noticeable "dye streaks" towards the edge of the disk, allowing me to only burn about half the disk. But for $53 shipped they work really well for temporary movie backups. Don't know how long they will last, but for now I am pleased with the price/quality ratio.
