Dont know if this has already been posted...

If you bought a CD from January 1, 1995, through December 22, 2000 you are eligible to file a claim and receive up to $20 back

  2. Wow - if they're refunding in the US, imagine how much they'd have to refund if we won our case in the UK?

Considering how widely this is known, I will be surprised if the per-person awards are more than $5. If they're below $5 nobody gets any money, it's distributed to charities in the states of people who filed claims. $20 is a best-case scenario that, like most ideal situations, has virtually no chance of becoming reality.

As of 3 days ago when I filed for my refund there was less than 30,000 people that had filed for it so far. As per another post above, this settlement is limited to US customers only. I imagine that since I find this as a news story on IWon, more people will jump at the chance for a free 20 bucks. You don't even have to show proof of purchase. 1 refund to a customer no matter how many cassettes or cd's you bought. You can also file for a refund for a deceased person but be ready to show proof for that.
If it works, don't mess with it, don't tinker with it and don't break it.

lawyers get 1/2 , thats 35million roughly left after that and its expected that apx 5 million will file a claim .. you have a chance of getting a couple bucks , but remember its taxable.

the 75 million cds they are giving away to the states is kinda interisting ..

i guess good way to clean out old stock in the warehouse and write it off as a loss that way ..

Lawyers are laughing all the way to the bank as they are the only ones that will end up with a meaningfull amout of money (33 to 40%). Looks like they get 33% (20$ vs 13.86$ refund) which is about 20 mln in this case. Since clients pay their fee that means they won't stop advertising this suit untill all the proceeds are disbursed and they have collected every penny of thein 20 mln reward.

  13. This sucks why didn't they do a better job of informing the public? If only 30,000 claims or so were made obviously they didn't do a good job or they did a great job of keeping low key. Shit with all the CD"s and vinyl i brought over that period I could have easily made a couple of hundred bucks by letting friends and family make claims on my behalf.

ok - so is it to late to get the money now - ?? it said the deadline date has passed -=[

  15. Yes, it's too late. The finally amount ended up being $14 instead of the original $20. I didn't sign up personally (didn't want my name on anything related to this case) but several of my friends did.

In the end, it was nothing more than a slap on the wrist for the RIAA. Only one or two record labels have actually lowered the prices on CD's.

My wife and I both got our checks! I'm going to use mine to buy more CD-R's for all the free music I have been downloading off of Kazaa!

  17. I like how the check comes with a little letter from the attorney general of your state taking credit for the work and the settlement. They must have worked hard in the legal settlement to make sure they got their names on the paperwork. Especially nice for those AG's that are up for re-election this year. Free publicity, .................. for doing what ? Where have they been all these years up to this point while the prices were kept high ? There, I feel better now.
