I am considering buying a new DVD camcorder from Sony that records directly to a small DVD. Is it possible to pull or (copy) the file that is recorded directly to the small DVD and place it on my hard drive for editing and making a regular DVD? wouldnt this eliminate the need to capture video, I dont have a capture card or firewire on my computer? If this is possible what would the quality be like?
thanks to all

those camcorders use the dvd format to burn the dvds. by that, i mean that they are mpg-2, 720x540, 29.9fps, etc. but they are in mpg format. it is possible to rip the dvds to your hard drive, and convert the dvd files to an mpg, but mpg doesnt really work well with editing. IMO, i woulndt buy one of those. but i dont know what your needs are, and what you are going to be using it for, so its up to you
