I am trying to follow the guides but I have just ripped a dvd with dvd decrypter and I don't know what guide to use because I do not know what it is now called, eg, xvid..?? I would like to do something to it so I can burn it with my cd burner I do not have a dvd burner yet..is this possible? thanks. I am sure I have to encode it or something.

If you have a stand alone DVD player you could make a VCD or a SVCD. These burn to CD-R discs and work on stand alone DVD players. Almost all will support VCD but only some support SVCD but SVCD does give better quality.

The other option is to make an MPEG-4 copy using DivX or Xvid but right now there are only a few stand alone DVD players that will play MPEG-2 which means you would only be able to watch your back-ups on your computer.

  3. To answer your question..the decrypted files now on your hard drive can still be refered to as DVD. You can use any of the guides that convert FROM DVD...just keep in mind what Fulcilives said...since you do not have a DVD burner you are limited by your conversion TO choices...VCD, SVCD, or DIVX/XVID (MPEG-4)..basically any format that can either be put on a CDR

Hello and thank you both for your answers. Right now I am converting the dvd with dvdx2.2, the output is a mpeg1..so am I doing something? can I burn the mpeg on a cd or do I have to convert the mpeg to something else in order to burn it on cd? thanks again.

ans: you can burn it as a file always

but to make a VCD you must've endowed the MPEG-1 you are making with the correct characteristics of a VCD
this way..YOU GO TO THE BURN PROGRAM and CHOOSE burn.VCD and the file just slips in....
IF it doesn't have the correct specs, the burn progrram may reject or reencode it

well it worked, I was able to watch it on my dvd player, there were a few cliches in the video probably due to some settings, but of course I could not get it all on one cd, it will be fine until I get a dvd burner
