I am getting a new Philips DVD727 dvd player next week. And i plan to try vcd and svcds in it. I have read that it should work. I also read that it will play mpeg data cd. Does that mean that if i just buen a cd with an mpeg file ( not vcd, but regular style cd ) it will play it. If i burn a mpeg file that is higher than vcd but not as high bitrate or format as svcd it will play? Any help is great.

I have this player. It can play SOME mpeg and avi files burned on CD or DVD. I have no explanation why.

i have read that most vcd svcds will work and some raw mpeg cds will work. So i am going to get it. People seem to like it. Are here any brand cd-rs that will not seem to work on it? I am partial to FujiFil 70mb cd-rs (they are made by Taiyo Yuden) and i have some regular data cds that are several years old and still work while some imation and memorex that are less than a year old will not work. I also get a good price on Fuji. Usually 19.99 for 50 and a lot of times they are on sale for 9.99.

Just a note ... the only FUJI CD-R discs that are Taiyo Yuden are the one's that say MADE IN JAPAN so beware! The bigger packs that are often on sale tend to say MADE IN TAIWAN and are not Taiyo Yuden.Originally Posted by mcgrawbobby69
Lately I've only been able to find the MADE IN JAPAN FUJI CD-R discs in small quantities ... usually 10 packs with slim cases.
I agree that Taiyo Yuden is the best CD-R (and the best DVD-R) media you can buy.

these said maide in japan on the wrapper i think. I also used a program that reads the cd and tells you who made it and all the info and it says Tayo Yuden and a bunch of stuff

if it does, do you just burn it like a regular (raw cd, no special formatting)?
