I removed my old DVD drive and replaced it with the NEC, putting the cables into the new drive in the same way. I booted up but it did not recognise anything had been installed. The NEC was receiving power and I put a DVD in, but it would not play and caused the computer to crash about 6 times.

I tried selecting auto in the setup menu just under where it listed my CD Rom. This also made no difference and it still crashed.

I'm running Windows XP. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong??

Check you Master/Slave jumpers on the drives. if ok, try swapping to a different ide port, or switching master/slave jumpers.

Thanks, Gkar. That seems to have done the job.
