What you need is the Visual Basic runtime (MSVBM50.dll). It's apparently not included in the BeSweet package, so go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/180071/ to download Msvbvm50.exe and install it.

    tebasuna51 from Doom9 teaches:

the best option is not use BeSweet anymore, the software is abandoned and obsolete.

I did as Ai Haibara suggested. It worked except that once I click on the folders to select the file I want to convert or I select a saved preset, all of the controls disappear. However, the program otherwise works. If you already have your presets set, you don't have to worry about seeing the controls. Please let me know if anyone knows how to bring back the controls.

Also, I know of no other free program that will convert 6 wavs to a DD 5.1 AC3 file. Please let me know if you do.

Thank you, El Heggunte. I will take a look at it. Is it simple and intuitive? Are there good instructions for it?

  8. I like BeSweet GUI as an integrated frontend for everything from Azid to SSRC to Lame, so I'd rather not switch when I started working on my Win 7 machine (after dl'ing the VB5 runtime). If you have working presets that's great. If you need new presets or change presets, here's what you need to do (prolly works on Vista also):

Option 1: Set your display to 16-bit color. This messes up your Aero theme but it's just temporary. Change it back to 32-bit when you're done.

Option 2: Right click the GUI exe and go to properties. Under Compatibility, check Run in 256 colors. This messes up your display even more than 16-bit. But once you close the GUI, your display goes back to normal.

  9. In properties, tick just 'Disable desktop composition'. This will change the Windows colour scheme to Windows 7 basic whilst using the program and stop the controls from disappearing because they aren't compatible with certain visual elements (Aero). When the program is closed everything will return to normal.

Excellent, gentlemen. Both of your suggestions worked. I prefer the "Disable Desktop Composition" solution since it retains the visual quality of the BeSweet interface. Thank you.

  11. You're welcome.

This can also sometimes help with apps that seem to run slower on Win7 (and maybe Vista) compared to XP, etc. I have a Compro DVB-T PCI card installed. Under XP and using version 3 of the ComproDTV software it ran lovely, but when I changed to Win7 I had to update the DTV software to version 4 and it ran really slow. There would be a really long delay between me pressing a button and the action and a couple of features wouldn't work properly, like being able to zoom in to parts of the picture. But as soon as I disabled desktop composition it ran just like it did on XP and the zoom was back.
