  1. hey.
    i just got a nec nd-1300a writer.
    seems to be working great.
    except one thing.
i cant get it to burn faster than 2.4x....
in nero there is no 4x option.
it has the 1.0a firmware installed.

does anybody know what the problem is?

and how i can fix it?

  2. Tried it with different media ?, maybe because your media is 2.4x.
    If it's wet, drink it

I've got the same drive, just different firmware. Nero is nothing but trouble for me with this, I stick to DVD Decrypter, or RecordNow Max for my DVD burning. Using Nero I can't even burn a DVD+RW disc on this drive, I've replicated this bug on another PC also with a 1300a, both with the latest release of Nero 5. Right before it hits 100%, it craps out and fails burning. I've burnt to +RW discs using RecordNow Max, DVD Decrypter, TMPG's DVD Author Burning Tool, Nero just doesn't work well with this drive in my experience.

also have this problem. just bought tdk +dvd blanks at Staples and only burn at 2.4. Using nero drive info it only shows 2.4 capability.

up till now I only used princo 1x -r because they were cheap and burned at 2x. the tdk disc's from staples were a good price for 4x but a waste if only going to burn at 2.4

    have firmware 1.0a

Is anyone able to burn at 4x with this drive? If so what s/w and media are you using? thanks

  6. i have bought Xeed dvd-r 4x discs.
the fact that they maybe wont work when burned in 4x doesnt really bother me.

what bothers me is that there isnt even an option to burn 4x with nero 6.3.03 since it is a 4x writer.

does different burning apps show different speeds? or is it the same for all?

i borrowed a nd-1100 and used it in this computer before and it had the 4x option even though i didnt use it.

You havent tried different software yet? Try any of the ones I mentioned in my previous post.

As for 4X burning in this drive...I've used Memorex +R's, and also Ritek G04's for -R, both worked fine. You may want to update your firmware though, that could be the issue. I'm using official firmware 1.06, and I think up to 1.08 is available.

  8. latest firmware is 1.0a

a bit ago i tried burning another disc
now there was a 4x option, so i chose to burn in 4x.
however it didnt burn any faster for that. took 50 minutes for 3.5 gb and right at 99% it causes windows to totally crash. i mean a total meltdown.
a warning pops up saying windows will shut down in 60 seconds and then the computer just powers down without me able to stop it.
first time ever i had a problem like that

is it the 1.0a firmware that is causing this?
seems strange since its an official release from nec.

Just checked your PC specs...perhaps the overclocking is causing something? I know very little about what that does, but I'd imagine it can't be too good for a PC.

Try upgrading your firmware to the latest 1.09 version. That will support a wider range of dvd media. Get it here along with excellent support.
