Hello,
I've been told that the purchase of a DVD recorder (standalone) such as the Sansui or Philips or Apex machines out there would be a waste because all the DVD's I create are not recorded in a compatible format with the forthcoming HDTV sets. I am I to understand that if I were to purchase a recorder now and convert my VHS to DVD, a few years from now I'm going to have to re-convert all the DVD's to an HDTV compatible format? Any help with this would be appreciated. Seems kind of dumb to do a double conversion within a 6 year period.

The major electronics manufacturers are discussing a high resolution DVD format that will replace the current format. When these machines are available to the public, they will almost certainly be able to play today's DVDs.
The DVD recorder you buy today will not be obsolete. It wil continue to work with any new TV set, and the disks it records will play on future generation players.
