  1. I am currently converting my 8mm to DVD with a set top dvd recorder. I am considering storing these videos on a hard drive as well.

My question is: is there a program (format) which allows both viewing the movie from the hard drive as well as easy burning onto a blank dvd (to make new copies of the original)

I have been able to to use DVDycrypter to put an iso file on my HD and then burn a new dvd but unless I missed something I can't get that ISO to play from the HD. I have been able (through various programs) to put the IFO, etc. files on the HD so they can play but have been unable to successfully make a copy.

I have searched the forums, read the guides, experimented and so far have not come up with a solution.

If the answer is on this site I apologize in advance for being unable to find it and wasting your time. Most of the stuff seems to be directed at "backing up" facory made dvd's so it is hard to decipher what works for home burned (which is all i am playing with) DVDs.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. It should be possible to use DVD Decrypter in File Mode to copy the files to your Hard Drive. Then use Power DVD or similar to play them.

  3. You can make disc images with DVD Decrypter and mount the images on a virtual drive using Daemon Tools (Freeware).

Works for me quite well actually.

  4. yep load ISO in Daemon Tools in the ticket IMO. My version of Power DVD won't even play DVDs very well from an IFO file. gets all glitchy. Plays them fine through ISO in Daemon though.

    wdfa89,

I believe that something like 'daemon tools' is exactly what you're looking for. It takes that iso file and mounts it with a virtual dvd drive. Works great for CDs or DVDs.
