I want to get rid of my old 200 disk mechanical CD player and record the disk material on a hard drive player. But I want to be able to display and select songs with a remote from a menu displayed on my TV. My research seems to be leading to a DVD recorder in order to get the TV screen display. Video storage is a plus but not a big requirement. A hard drive DVD recorder is OK as long as I can organize my CD's into an easily usable fashion. I was looking at a Samsung DVD SH855 250GB recorder. Is this something that might work? Or can somebody suggest something that they are familiar with?

  2. Western Digital Media Player is a good choice as is the Popcorn Hour A-100,you just connect a flash drive or external HDD and connect it to your TV.
Another possibility is a HTPC,if you have an old PC you can use the S-video or composite to connect to your TV.
You can use CDex or WMP to rip your CD's to WAV or MP3,WAV's sound better but MP3's are smaller and can store artist info in the ID3 tags.

Thanks for the info MovieGeek. I found a hard drive CD player with video and network capability which will do everything I want (and more). It is a ESCIENT SE-80 "FireBall" which will directly copy a CD into MP3 format. It goes out on the Internet and grabs all the ID3 info including cover image, and then organizes everything into a nice menu. It also handles Internet radio and image capabilities (slide shows etc). Can be operated with its remote from the couch, but since it's considered a network "server" I can also manage it in more sophisticated ways from my computer. It's in order through Amazon. Now to get it hooked up!
