Well you captured as MPEG-2 with MP2 audio right?
Do you know the "stats" of your MPEG file? Like resolution, bitrate of video, bitrate of audio. the total file size and running time etc.
Can't help without a lot of details!

If you are very serious about quality to make dvd-video from satellite. This programs will result in very very high quality video and audio. Use iuvcr with picvideo mjpeg codec (both not shareware). Change the audio settings to 48khz 16-Bit Stereo. Change resolution to 720x480 (NTSC) or 720x576 (PAL). Put your line in to the fourth marker for nice volume on recording. After captured, use virtualdub/virtualdubmod with these filters in order : deinterlace, logoaway, sharpen=64, smoother=1 (Enable Noise Prefilter). After that use TMPGENC. Open AVI File. Open DVD Template. Open unlock template. Change constant quality to 8000 minimum and enable padding and also put quality to 100. Select 10 bits. And Select Normal. Go to the Advanced Tab and change source aspect ratio to : 2:11:1 Display. Tick the clip frame tickbox and double-click on it. Crop 60 on the top and 60 on the bottom. Now select top and bottom border tickboxes. If you use pal - also set to custom - 720x480 (not 576) - maybe different for ntsc. Go to the GOP structure tab. Click force picture type setting and click on setting. Click on auto-setting and change from 100 to 150 (looks for movement in video - Much better results). Start it. Go to Quantize Matrix tab. Detick tickbox - No Motion Search... Click on audio tab. Audio must be - Mpeg 1 - Audio Layer II - 384 kbps - Stereo - Error Protection tickbox ticked. Press Ok. Click on Option - Enviromental Setting - Audio Engine TAB - Change Mpeg 1 - Audio Layer II Encoder to external program tooLame. Press Ok. Start converting the video. Burn with any DVD-Authoring Program.

Now load the original MPEG into your DVD author program as the video and use the new audio file as the audio source. It will then only grab the video from the MPEG file and your new COMPLIANT audio file for the audio.
The problem is this ... DVD needs 48k audio and you used 44.1k when capturing.
So really all you need to re-do here is the audio.

What Fulci said.
Sonic is converting your Mp2 audio to LPCM, this is where your size problem lies. Sonic will accept a file muxed with AC-3 sound without converting audio.
If your other files are at resolutions other than 720 or 352 x 480, you will need to re-encode, using TMPGenc or something similar.
Best bet is to cap at 48k and either 720x480 or 352x480. Then all you need is the AC-3 conversion.
