  2. Sorry mate but my Crystal Ball is in for repair at the moment. So if you would kindly provide a few more details such as the format of the avi (divx, DV ?) and what tools and settings you are using and maybe even what format you are trying to convert TO, then maybe I, or some else, can help.

  3. the video is Divx and i used TMPGENC and ULEad video. When i go to convert it, it starts fine but when i go to watch it, it starts and then it just plays audio and it looks like your watching a picture.

  7. Try frameserving from virtualdub to TmpGenc.

This is all assuming the avi actually plays OK in WMP of course

Maybe try another encoder, you can then decide where the problem lies. In the .avi or the encoder.
Free trials are around if you look hard enough.

    Just a thought.........

Sounds like you got a really screwed up file there.

  13. if the avi is a late version of the divx codec and you're using an older standard version of TMPGEnc you most likely be unsuccessful at converting directly.

Try this: if you haven't already, download the HuffYuv codec and install. Then use VirtualDub to encode some test sections of the avi to HuffYuv. from there you should be able to use TMPGEnc to convert the test sections.

There is a guide here on using VDub to frameserve to TMPGEnc. HuffyYuv is a good transition codec for that process. You can also use uncompressed avi as the transition codec in this process

Or you can simply first convert to huffy then reconvert using TMPGEnc. The huffy files will be large so you may run up against the 4 GB limit, so you'll have to convert segments, and join as a final step.
