  1. I had a duff 105 which was replaced with an NEC 2500a.
I installed the drive, everything looked good, all seemed fine in XP, and Nero Info looked ok.
I started Nero, and the drive didn't appear in the list of devices - odd.
I reinstalled the latest Nero update just in case, but still not there.
I have tried changing the drives around on the cable and changing jumpers - I have a BPREC CD burner on the same IDE channel, but still nothing.
The CD burner is reported ok.
I physically removed the CD burner, then no drives appear!

Does anyone have any ideas ?

  2. Did the orginal version of nero come with the 105 you had. It may not work with the 2500a. Does the drive showup in any other program like dvdshrink or dvd decrypter.

  3. I got Nero with the CD Burner, so it already accepted the 105 which wasn't in the original system.

Yes, it does show up in DVDDecrypter.

It just seems to be Nero !

  4. You need Nero 6. and up... preferrable 6.3.0.3

5.x versions of Nero don't recognise the NEC ND-2500A.

Also: check to ensure that Ultra DMA is turned on (check IDE channels under the Device manager, in the System on yo control panel)

there are other issues with IDE drivers that are found on SiS and Nvidia motherboards... post more specifics

  5. Thanks for the info.
Can you tell me where you found out that Nero 5.5 won't recognose the ND-2500A?
Just curious, one of my next steps was to email their support team for help.

    Cheers

  6. Nero 5X won't recocnize the Nec 2500. I have 6.0.X and everything is fine.
So, upgrade for 6.X, and try not to use the bundled software.

  7. Nero wont recognize it because a ) they need you to buy their new software b) It is locked to the original drive.

  8. Well I have to say, I think that's a very poor show indeed - they should provide an upgrade for new devices.
I'll ask their support team, I'm perfectly happy with Nero 5.5 for the burning I do - I'll take this up their support team.
Maybe there will be an upgrade, I suppose it's a relatively new drive, but not that new!

  9. RabidDog,

what do you mean by "locked to the original drive"??

I have just checked on their site, for device compatibility, it says NEC ND-2500A supported since 5.5.10.54+.

What does the plus mean? Does it mean it's coming in the next release, only a few devices have this +

  10. When you buy a CDRW the Mfr could give away a copy of Nero that will only work with that Mfr devices.. your copy of Nero will work with your Bsp?? CDRW but will not allow any other device to be chosen as the recording device. Another variation on this is that it will work as long as the original device is installed (prevents passing on a copy).

  11. Oh I see - well that's not the problem here, Nero was quite happy to work with my 105 which was added well after I bought the original system.

  12. I just uninstalled Nero 5.5, reinstalled and added the latest update - that didn't work.
Downloded the demo of 6, hey presto - works.
I 'aint paying £25 for an upgrade though - I'll see if I can get one cheaper from elsewhere, maybe an OEM version.

Absolute no prob. Its about the serial-number (NOT the version-number) of Nero. I've a NEC 2500 as Master and a Pio 105 as Slave, burning with Nero 5.5.10.54 ('cause this time I'm thinking 6.x is too big to me) in maximum speed on both drives (4x and 8x). You need a serial witch allows you to run with different drives, not a serial of a bundled / or OEM package. See, you can use a Nero bundle or OEM package, if it's a complete version (no cut of any function), but you have to got a working serial (buy one at Nero.com or look to the web).
