IVTC on MPEG2 29.97?

Greetings all,

I've recently put together a media server to capture live tv/tivo and record to DVD (thanks in large part to the information on this site). I've got a Hauppauge WinTV PVR-250 for the capturing to MPEG-2. I've got most of the workflow down, but am confused on the IVTC process.

The card captures interlaced NTSC video at 29.97. When I convert it to divx progressive scan with Dr. Divx or use virtualdub-mpeg deinterlace, it looks great both on the TV and monitor. The raw MPEG output, though looks horrible on a monitor (well, at least without the cyberlink decoder). Womble IVTC doesn't seem to do anything. I haven't tried TMPC yet, but I've seen people here claim that it introduces a/v sync issues.

Is there a "right way" to deinterlace MPEG-2 video before burning to DVD without having to reencode the video? If not, what is the best way to create a progressive scan DVD with as little quality loss as possible? Should I be concerned about these things? Should I have just gone with a Canopus ADVC-100?

If your going to author the mpeg to dvd and watch on your home dvd player then there`s no need to deinterlace as that will reduce picture quality.You will be able to watch the dvd with no problems.
