  1. This is for anyone with Sony D8 knowledge/experience:

I have a Sony D8 camera, and i capture to the comp. The footage is automatically saved as an AVI.

Now, specifically, I want to extract the audio from the AVI using virtualdubmod, HOWEVER, it won't let me b/c it doesn't recognize the AVI file (or doesn't have the codec for it).

Does anyone know what is (or where I can get) the SONY Digital Video codec?

  2. You must have a DV codec installed on your machine. I use mainconcept DV Codec which is not free. You can download a demo version (adds a watermark to processed video) from www.mainconcept.com.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Thanks Pharaoh

I'll look into that. In the meantime, I browsed the tools, and figured out a lower budget (re: free) way of getting around my problem.

I DLed Canopus DV File Converter, ran my "unsupported Sony D8" avi. through it, and converted it into a recognized avi, that I'm now running through Virtual Dub as we speak. Seems to work!

The converted avi came out roughly the same file size as the original, w/ no quality loss.
