  1. Hi all, my first post here. I'll try to give as much info as possible.

experience level: computers: extensive, burning dvd's: fairly new.

    OS: WinXP Pro SP1
    Rig: 2.8 ghz P4 CPU w/HT, 512 pc3200 ram
    DVD+RW: Lite-On 401s (Dec 12 firmware update)
Media: Philips DVD+R 2.4x retail cakebox
ripper: both smartripper and dvd decrypter
    transcode: dvd2one, dvd shrink 3.14
burn: Nero 6, and Intervideo DVD Copy
Standalone player: Sony NS-425 (top-rated player here at DVDrHelp.com)

no antivirus, or anything else of note running in the background.

I had made about 25 backups in a row, sucessfully, with no problems whatsoever. I was using Philips 2.4x RW's and TDK 4x +R.

I recently picked up 50 Philips 2.4x +R's and the first 25 had no problems. Somewhere in the 2nd stack, I started getting a repeating error. My burned discs would have read errors, *always* at 68% into the disc. The movie would play fine on my standalone, until about an hour and 20 minutes in, the movie would freeze. usually, it will grind a bit, and then skip ahead about 5-10 minutes and then continue playing.

This has happened on about 6 of the last 8 burns. (I didn't know till later, as I burned them all, and then watched them later)

On one particular movie, I made two copies, and both had read errors at 68%. I thought it might be my rip/transcode method, so I switched to different method, and still got errors.

I did a lot of reading here, and it seems like it's probably just the blanks. All errored discs have been on that 2nd batch of Philips 2.4x +R's. I just re-burned the same movie from the same rip/transcode to an RW, and it came out perfect.

It might be an obvious answer the experts here, but being new I'm just not sure, and wanted to find out so I can correct it. I just ordered a 50 pack of Ritek +RW's from newegg.

    thanks for reading this!
