Hi,
I have a PVR 250 and have been making many successful copies from the TV. However my results do not bode so well when capturing from VHS. To experiment, press play on the VCR, press record on the PVR, after three minutes, press rewind for ten seconds, then press play.
Playback using the Cyberlink PowerDVD Codec, or just burning straight to DVD using ULead MovieFactory works wonders. No problems. Demuxing, or transcoding using TMPGEnc, Womble, importing into VirtualDub MPEG2 Mod, all results in audio sync issues after the rewind.
I have heard that TBC/Sync Inserter might fix these issues. But since there's nothing lost with the original MPEG2 (as proved by PowerDVD), Im wondering whether I need one at all. Maybe there's some kind of fix program I can run my MPEG2 file through.
Running the MPEG2 through the MPEG Parser of DVD-Lab, shows that during the 10 second rewind, there are various frames marked as "Quant Matrix Extension", and only for these 10 seconds.
So Im wondering:
1) What are Quant Matrix Extensions
2) Why are they being inserted
3) Do they need to be there?
4) Could this be the problem with the MPEG during editing (perhaps Cyberlink PowerDVD can skip over these...)
5) Can they be removed?
6) Should I just get a TBC?
If all the video information is there, why should it cause a problem during editing? It must be possible to fix up the MPEG somehow.
Cheers
Simon
