  1. Hello I have a bunch of .wmv files on my computer that I want to burn on a CD and watch on my dvd player. I have made VCDs before but I cant find a program that will convert .wmv files into .mpg files or anything that will work on my dvd player.

I have tried TMPGEnc and I tell it to make a "MPG" file when its finished I right click on the video and go to properties and it says its a "mpeg" file...mpeg dont work on dvd players only mpg right?

Im so confuised...ALL I WANT TO DO IS burn some .wmv files on a cd so I can watch them on my dvd player on my TV.

    Thanks a lot!!!!

  2. You want to make VCD from wmv? You are on the right track using tmpegenc to make a mpeg-file. mpg and mpeg are the same, mpg is only the windows-way of writing mpeg, because it earlier only allowed 3 characters in the file suffix. Select the type of VCD you want to make in tmpegenc (PAL, NTSC etc.) and encode. When finished use Nero or vcdeasy to make a VCD. In Nero you have to specify that you want to make a VCD and it will make all the directories and files needed automatically.

At this moment I'm downloading 3 movies.

Each movie is broken down into about 20 some wmv videos. Size is about 35 megs each. After I finish getting these files for each movie I use InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2.

I import one movie at a time. Which is about 20 some wmv video files.

In case someone is confused ... I import all of the 20 some files at one time ... they are all processed as that one movie for that particular movie title.

I don't put all three movies in one project ... that would be a 6 hour long dvd ... each movie is about 2 HRs long.

I dont use the ... create DVD function [HQ quality is limited to 1 hour] ... I use it to create a DVD compliant mpg-2 video[HQ quality is not limited to 1 hour]. The file will be big ... 6 gigs or more.

I then use TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5 to import the mpg-2 file and make my DVD and then DVDShrink to shrink it.

Check this post out ... should help you.

Oh ... BTW ... I cancelled one of the three movies ... it was funky ... no point in getting it. They're adult movies and the one I cancelled ... the guys were using condoms. LOL

well I could be mistaken but I do believe they are the same. I just take the e out of mpeg and stick with mpg.

To play a VCD, you have to burn it as a VCD. It's a very specific structure. Nero/Record Now/ VCDEasy all understand waht a VCD is and how to burn it (burn as Video/VCD). If you used the VCD template in TMPGEnc, then you should be okay. If you 'messed with the settings' then it's probably not complient.
