  2. Do ya think actually giving the resolution numbers of the original file and of the conversion you made might be helpful in analysing your problem? Maybe even add such things as FPS, codec, bitrate, etc? Did you try one of the dozen or so complete, step-by-step conversion GUIDES listed here?

Resolution is the pixel count horizontally and vertically, for example VCD is 352X240 for NTSC. To find the resolution of an avi you can use Gspot, avicodec,Virtualdub or right click on the file in windoze explorer >properties >summary.

The resolution of your DVD-mpeg is usually selected in your conversion process. DVD has three basic resolutions: 352x240, 352x480 and 720x480.

When converting from avi to DVD you want to select a resolution that closely matches your avi. Going from a lower to higher res. will cause a noticable drop in quality as you cannot "create"pixels from nothing, so blockiness is the result. I suspect this is your problem. I am not familiar with cucusoft but you might want to try another encoder like TMPGEnc.

  5. Here's my two cents...I've never heard of this encoder. It sounds like a crappy encode...use TMPGenc or if ya got some cash try Cinema Craft Encoder.

  6. Here's a comment about this encoder from the tools section of this site:

Bought this programme some weeks ago after I read a good feedback about it here. Having used the programme twice, and I just can't be asked to use it anymore. Without a doubt, it is probably the cheapest AVI to VCD/DVD movie converter you can even get, but really you do get what you pay for. I tried to convert an AVI movie here, it took 12/13 hours to convert the movie even I am using a P4 3GHz PC, anyway the final reasult was not brilliant but acceptable. Emailed to the Cucusoft support to ask for some help. They did reply my email at the beginning, but then when I asked for another technical question, they just ignored my email and I havent heard from them again since. I understand I only paid $20 or something for this programme, but when I visited their website and read all the descriptions about the programme, I really thought I have come to the right place to pick up a bargain, but once I have used it, it is just a disappointment. I am disappointed with the programme and the customer support service. I would definitely NOT recommend this programme to anybody who wants to convert AVI to VCD/DVD properly.

Hmmmm...Looks like crap...smells like crap...Im getting the sneaking suspicion that...IT IS CRAP!!!

You can join before using Virtualdub, look it up in the "Edit" section
(over there <-<-<-). The video and audio must be the same though, you may need to convert the audio to wav if it's VBR-MP3. You can then frameserve the video from Vdub to TMPGEnc instead of saving an intermediate file, you'll find frameserving in the "Edit" section too.

Alternatively, you can author two (or more) mpegs onto the same DVD. Your choice.
