Hey, well my brother wanted to borrow my "Scarface" DVD-R the other day, and since he just picked up a new v9 PS2, I thought it would work since they added DVD-R movie support in the new v9's. Well, we throw it in there, and it plays the main menu, and all the little menu's(sound menu, chapter listing, etc.) just fine. But when we go to move to the actual movie, it says it "is unable to read disc". I'm using the heavenly Ritek G04's, and I don't want to believe that my beloved Ritek's won't play in this new model PS2. Could this be a laser problem? He's only had it for about a month, and it was brand new when he got it. I've tested the disc myself on a couple other drives and players, and it works fine. Any ideas?

actually, dvd-r support has been around since the ps2 cherry got popped (launch).
did you dvd9 to dvd5 this movie yourself? if so, how?
its pretty weird that your ps2 wont take it, v9's support even shitty media (not to say g04's are shitty, they're great).
does your ps2 play other dvd-r's? try burning the movie on a RW to see if its the disc or the ps2.
process of elimination.. i'm guessing its probably just the disc though, ritek is good, but not perfect.
