    Hey all,

My sony DVPNS300 broke down. Apparently it's a laser problem because it's not recognizing the disk according to our tech guy, so I was thinking about buying a combo deck and ditching some wires in the proccess. Having a DVD burner, I need something that supports DVD+R/RW, is durable, and will last more than two years.

The Model I'm looking at is a $199 Sony Combo Deck, SLV-D300P Progressive Hi-Fi Scan Dual Deck.

If anyone can give any comments, since Amazon.com dosn't have any, or can recomend a beter one, most appreciated.

  2. I have the Samsung dvd1000 and it plays everything I throw at it, dvd+r(w), dvd-r(w), svcd, vcd. I think the newer version is the dvd2000.

  3. Sony SLV D300P. It will play CDR(W), VCD, SVCD, DVD(+/-)R(W), MP3, JPEG pictures, VHS. I have run VCD, DVD+RW and DVD-R through it with no problems. Check it out in the DVD players list on this site. It just came out, I bought it for $199 at best buys. If you have anymore questions about this players just reply.

Thanks for all the replies guys. But I'm rather nervous about going with new brands, so I think I'll stick with what I know. How does the VCR portion of the Sony deck perform? Good, bad, the ugly? I'm also interested in how it'll play old tapes"(10 years or older) that are not Hi-Fi stereo..

    Thanks.

  5. The Sony SLV D300P plays my VHS tapes fine. It states it can rewind aT-120 in 60sec. I haven't timed it but it is Fast!!! You can record non-Macrovision DVD's to VHS if you loop the OUT to the IN on the back and keep the player in DVD mode. The VHS has some commercial skipping feature that I haven't checked out yet. It also has timed recordeing where you can set it up to record from any one of 3 inputs (Channel, Line 1, or Line 2) for a set time; 30min, 1hr, 1.5hr, 2hr....
    The (S)VHS is 4 head Hi-Fi.

Ther a lot of other features listed in the manual that I haven't looked at yet.

(S)VHS? Is this a Quasi Super VHS machine, or can it actually record in that mode too?

  7. I have a toshiba SD370 and i love it. I had a Samsung V1000 prior to that, and had problems with a lot of the dvd-r media i threw at it (skips, etc). Toshiba plays every dvd-r fine that i've thrown at it.

    kthx

  9. Don't get the slvd300p. I have it, I'll sell you mine for half price. Check out my review under stand alone dvd players, and then check out the reviews at Circuit Citys web site.
