  1. I am poised to purchase a Canopus ADVC-300 and, needing a 1394 interface on my PC, am considering one of the following...

ADS PYRO 1394b FireWire 800 PCI Card <or>
    OrangeLink FireWire 800/1394b PCI Card

Leaning toward the former; I've searched the Canopus forums and have seen hints of chipset compatibility concerns, but no brand specifics. If you can offer any insight or experience with either ADVC/1394b combo, or simply recommend one 1394b over the other, I'd sincerely appreciate your input.

For your reference, my detailed system specs and intentions can be found here...

Thanks very much for your time and consideration.

I have a ADAPTEC 4300 FIREWIRE card that has TEXAS CHIPSET but I don't have any problems with it. It works perfectly with my ADVC-100. If I'm not mistaken the TEXAS CHIPSET problems were with older motherboards. I read about in on this forum site or another one. You're pc is fairly new so I don't think you would have any problems. Purchase from COMPUSA or a local pc store because if you have compatibility issues you can return it for a refund. Check the ADAPTEC website they may still have a rebate specials on their firewire cards. Good Luck!

Unless you have money to burn, I think you'd be just as happy with
an ADS pyro AV link($120), and a generic 1394 card($20).,
Works great for me. I returned my Canopus, and got two each of the above, with change left over.
