  1. First, I notice that they're out of stock almost everywhere. Probably due to the FCC making anything that records HDTV and acts like a real VCR illegal, but I digress. (I don't recall voting for that bunch of jerks who are violating the "no mandate" provision of the DMCA with their mandate...)

    But I've been reading that these tuner cards can't recieve HDTV over cable. Is this true? If so, it makes buying one before they become illegal to sell almost pointless.

    they are in stock - no problem there , but if you are talking about the popular MDP-120 card -- no , it can not record off cable ..
