  1. After I convert my DivX to MPEG with TMPGEnc, I seem to get a very small TV cropping, which cuts off some of the subtitles. But when watched on the computer it seems to be fine. Any suggestions?

Not sure if this goes in authoring or conversion.

The movies are 640x360 (widescreen?) which are NTSCFilm.

    Here are my settings:

    Video type: Interlace
    Field order: Top field first
    Aspect ratio: 4:3 Display

  2. Keep it widescreen.

And you will get some cropping due to TV overscan.

You didn't say where the subtitles are getting cropped off. Is it only near the sides of the image and/or are they too low on the screen?

Are the subtitles already burned in to your MPEG-4 AVI file or are they seperate subs that you are burning into the image when doing the MPEG conversion process?

Also are you doing VCD or SVCD or DVD and at what resolution?

Anyways you can solve the problem but it will require using AviSynth (easiest way if you ask me) or VirtualDub.

  4. FulciLives: The subtitles are getting cropped at the bottom, so it's too low for the screen.

The subtitles are digitally subbed onto the original AVI file, I then converted it into the VCD MPEG file.

The video is NTSCFilm so the resolution is 352x240

How exactly do I use AviSynth to fix the problem?

Use FitCD ... load the original AVI file into it ... then play around with the resizing methods. You will probably want to try 2 blocks of overscan compensation.
