Seems that I have more than just the Power Calibration Error to deal with. Now when I insert a disk and attempt to open in DVD Shrink 3.0, the DVD drive is not reading the disk. I have tried a few disks and none are readable. Do I have to reinstall my driver? Has my DVD Shrink crapped out?

Usually when I put in a DVD movie to back up, I click "Open Disk" and hear the DVD player warming up, making noise, reading the disk, etc. - It is no longer doing that.

    Any advice?

    Hello mate.
Can you play your discs at all?
Or have you tried DVD Decrypter? Its free.
Try watching the disc..if you can play it then it should rip to hard drive also.

    B-Top - Greetings.

Somehow between last night and this morning, I can no longer play DVD on my PC. I insert the disk and get ABSOLUTELY nothing....

What gives? I truly have no clue what happened. When I attempt to Open Disk in DVD Shrink 3.0 it reads "NO DISK." Have tried several disks and getting nothing. Do I need to reinstall DVD Shrink?

Sorry to bump this, but I am really in a pinch and cannot figure out why my DVD drive is no longer reading DVDs. Reinstalled DVD Shrink, but that wasn't the issue. I am able to read CD's and can burn CD-Rs with Nero, but I am not able to read DVDs at all. Insert them and nothing happens.

I don't watch DVDs on my PC and removed some DVD watching software that didn't seem to be working when I was clearing off my C drive and deleting programs I don't use often. If this is the issue, how do I install DVD watching software and what should I use?

    Thank you much.

Man i dont know the solution to that one mate. Can you uninstall the drive, then when you reboot it will be detected again and reinstalled??

Dont do that yet though until someone with more knowledge gives the ok to do so first

Hope someone comes in with a solution....i am sure they are out there somewhere.

  6. Geez, whenever you start getting power calibration errors, your drive may be toast.

cellmaniac - How can the drive be toast if I am still ripping CDs left and right? Is it possible the DVD aspect of it is roached and the CD aspect is fine?

I seriously think I threw out some necessary software and need to reinstall. How does one do that? I am beyond a newbie with this stuff....

  8. I've always thought that the DVD has a separate laser pickup vs. CD. I may be wrong....

  9. You need the DVD software installed. It will not function as a DVD without it.

What version of Nero are you using? If you install the DVD software, and get the power calibration error, try uninstalling and reinstalling Nero.

Maybe I am just in denial but I bought the DVD burner in late December and have only used it for a month. Was working fine until this weekend and pretty much crashed out after I tossed some software....

  11. If you threw out the DVD software that came with the DVD burner, you can go to tools on the left hand side, and then go to DVD players. They have plenty of software you can try, on a trial basis.

I think I have bigger issues or the DVD writer might be roached. Tried to install the Sony DVD disc that came with the writer and once inserted, I still get "Please Insert A Disc Into Drive E" - It is not reading DVDs but is reading CDs. A poster earlier stated that the CD-R can be fine while the DVD-R can be jacked up. Does anyone else know if this is the case?

  13. I would be willing to guess your problem is Nero. What version do you have? Uninstall Nero, including in the registry. Also visit Nero's website, they address this issue.

And then install the Sony software. See if it works, then reinstall Nero.
