  1. In the past few days there have been many posts about Nero and the coasters being made with it. As with all things in life some things work, some don't. Just so with software, some versions better than others. I have been succesfully backing up DVD's by using the most simple methods. Rip with DVDDecrypter(whether in ISO or File-depending on original DVD;ie DVD-5 or DVD-9). Then if simple 4.7GB disk burn with same program to DVD. If not then use DVDShrink to get it down to size, make image with Img Classic and then use DVD Decrypter to burn. Now we come to Nero. If and very rarely I want a copy of a copy then I use Nero. Pop in the DVD, click on Copy DVD and go, and never a prob. Never a prob even when burning AUDIO_TS + VIDEO_TS. So my 2c worth.
    1)CHECK your software
2)DON'T surf the Net, edit in Photoshop, and Burn a NEW Compilation
3)DEFRAG your HD every now and then(like 1xweek-or even more frequently)
4)DO a REINSTALL-NEW of your OS every five or so months-you do want to back up your DVD's don't you???PS Read Doom9 on this.
5)MAKE sure all your support filters,codecs(audio/video) are up to date.
6)ASSIGN one HD for all this stuff-progs,temp folders, rip folders...
7)DEFRAG No.6 at least once in 2 DAYS!!
8)And most important of all:USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION on this and other forums-somebody had this same problem before you did and had it resolved-if not there is always GOOGLE!

    That's it. Nuff said!

  2. I've been using Nero 6 and getting good burn consistently.

Not really sure what all the fuss is about

  4. i think that people have just gotten used to using free programs like dvddecrypter and dvd shrink. so when they use a program that costs money, and it doesn't work 1 time, they bash it and say things like "i can't believe they charge money for that crap".

don't get me wrong, i use decrypter and shrink all the time, and they work great... but i also use nero to burn almost everything and it's only failed maybe a couple of times, and that's out of the probably hundreds of cd's and at least over 50 dvd's.

anyway... that's my 2 cents worth...

Same here I just got my burner on boxing day and have used dvd shrink and nero 6. Backed up 15 dvd's so far on memorex +r and -r and princo and so far no bad burns on my LG4040b they all play great. I think it is more of a user issue then a program issue myself. People do not seem to "read how to" before they jump into something.

    Just my 2c

  6. It's the old thing where people are more likely to relate a negative experience than a positive one. Also, different programs work better on different configurations. What works fine for one user may not work at all for someone else. Then there's always the ones who feel they need to criticize anyone who uses something other than what they use. If it works for you, then that's all that really matters....

  7. No, it is to do with the fact that Nero constantly burns incompatible DVDR discs. My old Cyberhome 528 player won't accept a Nero burnt disc, but will quite happily play anything else fired into it.

  8. think most of the problems with nero is operator error. either when they are burning or when they are authoring a dvd they don't do it right...

  10. There are known burn bugs with the early Nero 6 releases prior to the 28 release (sort order problem, DVD book type problem, etc.)The current 6.30 series releases complies with DVD standards. I nearly tossed Nero 6 out the window prior to their bug fixes.

  11. I love Nero 5.5...however, I don't like Nero 6.302. I have never had any problems with Nero 5.5, but I have a lot of coasters with Nero 6. I personally think the program is still too "new" and I'm sure they will fix the bugs by Nero 6.5 or whenever. You can read about my experience with the program here:

That's a bit extreme, maybe overkill.

Defrag once per month at minimum, maybe once a week if anal. Surfing the net takes almost zero resources (unless Java is used). Reinstalling the OS needs to be done maybe once every 1-2 years at most, and even then, only if theings stop working and no fix will correct it. Files go where files must go, so while it is fine to use a "rip" drive or whatever, understand you have almost zero control over "temp" files made by the system.

You first and last were on the money: know the software and then learn how to search the internet and forums when you have trouble.
