  1. hello,

i downloaded a 630 megas avi divx from mlMAC client and it took ages to complete, and now that I have it, I cant play it. It reports some kind of error on Quicktime (I can play divx there) and VideoLan wont even play it. I tried divx doctor and it doesnt even recognize the video.

So my question is, where can I get a divx fixer for macs? there are a lot for windows, but i'd like to try to fix this file anyway possible, and not just send it to the garbage bin.

    can you help me please?

    Try Mplayer

    Check video format

Check actual file container (hexedit) [is it an avi?]

assuming you are getting an educational or non pirated divx you would want to use VLC

just download it for OSX, drag the ICON of VLC over to applications folder, open the app, go to FILE OPEN and open teh divx

just be careful in future... downloaded movies are not tollerated for discussion!

This is most likely piracy. Besides, this particular video is filmed in grainy black and white cinema-verite style. The uncensored version just shows brief shots of the singer hitchhiking while naked. That cigarette she smokes is bound to kill her.

  8. LOL

No, I had opened that video before on my VideoLan, so the info is still on there. This is a movie, the madonna video would never be 630 megas (its like 5 minutes, quite a good and rare video).

    Anyone?

From what I gathered, this came to my attention:

avi warning: avi module discarded (invalid headr)
Please open the file in VLC, do not dismiss the warning window,
and try to go Window-->Info ( or command-I) and post back
the info for Video Stream0, video stream 1 ( if any), and audio Stream.

Me thinks its an improperly tagged file, thus why the header is invalid.

  11. Hello terryj!

I tried to do what you asked but since I cant open the video, the only option avaliable on the Info window is "general", that only tells me where the file is avaliable on my hard drive.

Any other way I can get the info you asked me? You seem to be on to something, hope you can help me.

    Thanks!

Here are two possible long shots you can try:

Have you tried to Doctor the AVI with DIVX Doctor II?
    ( available at Versiontracker.com)

Have you tried FFMPEGX to make a copy of the file into a different format?

IF you use ffmpegX and say use mmencoder to try to make a MPEG-4 file, the resulting log you get in terminal if it errors out, will tell us about the audio stream and and video stream when it intitially gets scanned,
otherwise if it doesn't error out will create a valid MPEG-4 file viewable in QT.

DIVX DoctorII will try to put what it can into a Quicktime wrapper
unless the header is so badly damaged it cannot re-structure it.
Make sure when using DD2 to check the prefs, and enable
"Process non-avi filetypes" so it will make an attempt.

*yawn* off to bed now. Post back with you findings.

  13. hello terryj!

I tried to do that on ffmpegx, divxdoctor still doesnt even accept the file. Here's what ffmpegx told:

Last login: Fri Jan 30 17:52:59 on ttyp1

Also tried the fix function on ffmpegx, it accepts the file but produces a fixed avi movie that is only a screen full of colorful pixels.

Does it make any sense to you?

    Keep in touch!

    I agree....
this is the problem with downloaded files... you never know the quality of them...

you can keep trying, but i have a feeling no apps will process this file correctly because the file is crap

**ERROR: [yuvscaler] Could'nt read YUV4MPEG header!
That pretty much says it all.
Since this was supposed to be a valid MPEG file of some sort,
and the header is crap, then there's no hope at all for the file.
FFMPEGX pretty much can fix anything slightly out of wack
that has been downloaded, but with the YUV4MPEG header
knocked out, it can't even establish a valid frame rate
    for the file.

sorry, looks like I'm agreeing with Masters ZeroSix and Galactica here/
