As a favour to those that are less BBCode inclined on the forum I have made up this simple guide on how to quote others in threads.
Firstly there is a 'simple quote' and looks something like this when posted:
To make a quote like this just follow these simple steps.I like Apples!
1) Copy and paste the text that you wish to quote into your own post. Alternatively you can type out the text instead of the copy/pasting.
2) Highlight your text and then click the "Quote" button located below the "Subject" line field. This will then add BBCode 'tags' around the text and will look something like this:
Alternatively, you can manually type out the quote tags yourself. Remember though that the 'close tag' will require a / before the word quote.Code:I like Apples!
We now move on to the second type of quote, the 'advanced' quote. The difference between it and the 'simple quote' is that it displays the Username wrote: phrase instead of the normal Quote:. If done correctly it will look something like this:
To make a quote that looks like the above example follow either of these two methods.Originally Posted by pacmania_2001
Method A:
1) Click the Quote that appears above the post that you want to quote from. This is the button that appears next to the other buttons like Computer Specs, Profile, PM and Email.
That's all the steps that are required for method A
Method B:
1) Copy and paste the text that you wish to quote into your own post. Alternatively you can type out the text instead of the copy/pasting.
2) Highlight your text and then click the "Quote" button located below the "Subject" line field. Alternatively, you can manually type out the quote tags yourself. Remember though that the 'close tag' will require a / before the word quote.
3) Right now your code will look similar to this:
It's time to personalise it with the username or phrase you want. To do this we must edit the first or opening quote 'tag' Here's an example:Code:I like Apples!
If this were posted the phrase, pacmania_2001 wrote: would then appear before the quote itself. As you can see all it requires is the following to be added to the first quote tag, ="Username"Code:[quote="pacmania_2001"]
It's that simple! Now you have no excuse as to why you, yourself can't quote in the comfort of your own home.

I can't get the highlight and click the quote button to work. I've never heard of it working like that before either. Am I missing something?
-
Might be browser dependant?
I'm using IE6 and never had a problem with it or with any version of IE before it. -
I tried it again and can't get it to work using Safari. I'll give IE a quick try.
-
Nope. IE won't do it either. It simplay adds the quote tag at the end of the text as usual.
-
Weird. Is that IE on a mac, or windows?
Maybe I some how downloaded a special version of IE. -

I refuse to quote another user until the moderators admit to tampering with my account (they're upto somink I just know it).
one minute I got 6000 posts, then i'm down to 325, and now all this trouble with the quotes.
something fishy going on here...I feel like Harrison Ford in The Fugitive -

Well I do admit to tampering with one of your posts in "the specialist list" to fix up one of your unsucessful quoting attempts. -
Talk about fine print:

Betamax and Laserdisk will follow later
But if anyone wants it early, Caridi just gave me a screener of it. -
