Just because it says Tivo, does this mean I can only receive television from Tivo? If I bought this kind of player would I be able to just hook it up to cable or satellite and just ignore Tivo?
In other words, can you just ignore the Tivo in this kind of player and treat it like a regular DVD recorder and still be able to Record from other sources like, VCR etc.....?

Depends on which version of the TIVO OS it has. If it's new(assumption on my part) the box probably won't work until it gets the TIVO subscription activated.

I have the panasonic E-80H with a 80 gig hard drive and I purchased it for capturing movies and tv shows from sattelite broad casts and ,I prefer this model over the pioneer with the tivo because you can edit your recordings where the pioneer cant edit out commercials. And finally I have always liked pannys over many other brands.

andkiich & louthewiz,
Thanks both for your responses. Does anyone know for sure the answer to my question? I don't want it for Tivo and if your thinking, then why don't I just get one without Tivo.
I've already owned 4 DVD recorders and all have been brought back to the store. The only one I haven't bought is the Panasonic and the DVD-Ram is what's keeping me from trying it. -
I feel strongly that if you purchase a unit with a hdd from panasonic you will be very happy. As for dvd ram its good to capture stuff from a vhs and you can cut edit join on the dvd ram and then dub to hard drive and then burn to dvd either way the advantage of dvd ram is to keep stuff you dont want to keep stored on the hdd .I hope this helps you,and finally many of us take the dvd ram and put i on a computer with a dvd ram reader to edit and use custom menus with other software like ulead tmpge and so on.. 8) 8) 8) 8)
