  1. Hi,

I was told on another forum to bypass acpi on xp pro install, this cured an installation problem. However I have now been told "you should not have done that mate" as my system will be stressed and not handle hardware properly.

Is there any way of getting acpi management back without having to reinstall everything again ? I cannot face another reinstall...............

    Cheers

    Mick

Seems I went through that same problem a year or two ago. I don't believe you can install ACPI except at the original install of XP. I would go to the Microsoft site to check for sure. As far as not having it, not really a big deal. It's mostly for energy savings. Unless every single component in your computer is ACPI compliant, it usually doesn't seem to do much anyway. You have to a fully ACPI MB to take complete advantage of it. Sorry, I'm not an expert on it, but I think you can live without it and not have any problems.

  3. Hi Redwudz,

I finished yet another complete reinstall late last nite and now have acpi back

If anyone wants to know - you absolutely cannot install acpi on an xp pro system that was installed without it !
The advantages are actually very useful as cards like the ati aiw 9800 pro will benefit from the acpi management. Also your system can rapidly run out of irq's.

A lesson learned for me - Dont trust all advice from every forum, especially the chap who told me to disable acpi without warning me of the side effects (not on this forum).

Interesting that the thread on the 'other' forum has been deleted !
