easy Avi Editing Program around ?

i have been using ulead movie factory 3 to edit bad language/unecessary violence from some naruto anime eps. xvid around 200mb ea. for my children to watch. and so far so good saving them in .mpg [about 350- 400mb ea. ] very great quality and very eazy to do. while watching the movie jus pause, click a botton and click play and pause then that scence is deleted but i can only fit to burn about 10 on a dvd-r.

my question is their a program like this easy to use that saves in avi, with same quality. when i used virdub or mod dub i go under filter and ee no way to deit scenes so it must not be easy .it also had no pause button while watching it. but i saved the film jus to see the quality in full prosessing mode as xvid the quality was really bad. only looked the same of i saved it in direct copy.

I don't think VirtualDub by itself would make a good avi editing program for something that is already edited. Those Naruto eps already have the commercials edited out and while I realize that you are censoring based on expletive content, the output video will have sudden jumps from scenes where you have cut out. I mean there are no transition effects in VirtualDub that will do things like fade in and out of a scene so that certain scenes don't just jump from one position to the next. For example say somebody is about to call Naruto and idiot, and then it jumps to a totally new scene......blah I kind of see where I'm going I just can't explain it to well.

But if you still want to edit in VirtualDub then those two half-arrows next to Frames are all you need.



Those two half arrows to the left of Frames is how you cut stuff using VirtualDub. You just hit the left facing arrow at the start of the scene you want to cut, then either play until the end of the scene [or just slide the bar] you want to cut and then hit the Square Stop button [which sort of acts like a pause button because even if you hit stop while playing a clip the slider will stop at wherever frame is at, it will not go back to the beginning of the clip] and then hit the right facing arrow to mark out the end of the scene. When you are happy with the scene you are about to cut out just go to Edit > Delete Selction [or just use the Delete key on your keyboard]. Repeat this process for however many scenes you are going to cut out.

Now comes an important step, saving the AVI so you retain the original quality of the source file. At the top go to Video and then scroll down and make sure or place a check/bullet next to "Direct Stream Copy"; and make sure Audio is also set to "Direct Stream Copy". Direct Stream copy will make sure that the new avi you are about to save is just an edited avi with a few cuts. You wouldn't want to use "Full Processing Mode" if you want to retain the quality of the original otherwise you'll basically be re-encoding the video with a possibility of losing some quality; which you've seen first hand when you tried to save it again using Xvid to compress it again. Direct Stream Copy is for doing simple things such as saving video / audio serparately or making simple cuts. Full Processing mode is for applying filters, changing frame rates, resizing,.....etc

ok i see it is rather hard to edit with vir.dub. btw...as for the scenes jumping and the movie looking bad after i edit it it rarley happens cuz ulead has it set up where you can adjust the timing to the split seconds.
ie. 01.01.26 90% of the time , i can jus cut a section out completly unnoticed . like the scene where he says i am gonna kick your a*s. then it goes to another scene well u wont see the scene where he says that at all....lol...and with the timing so to the tee, it looks normal


well anyone else know of a program i can buy/try which has ability to edit avi like ulead but save as avi . ulead cant

both are in-expensive and easy to use and excellent quality ...
