I have excellent results with dvdinfopro.
If at first you don't succeed; call it version 1.0 -
DVDINFOPro is awesome--you can verify a DVD in a minute or two with a couple of mouse clicks, and will give you more meaningful DVD-relevant info if it does find a discrepancy.
Not sure what your needs are, but if you want something more accurate you might try Beyond Compare [ http://www.scootersoftware.com/download.php ] or a similar program. It allows you to do a complete binary comparison, while DVDINFOPro takes about 1/5 of the time and the help file says it compares in blocks, so I assume it is less accurate (but again, probably fine for most cases). DVDINFO only supports comparison with DVD-VIDEO, so BC might yield more uses in areas other than comparing complete VIDEO_TS folders (not to suggest that DVDINFO doesn't have a plethora of other uses!).

I watch it. Since the way I copy a DVD includes making a copy of the files on my hard drive, when I buy a new DVD, I copy it to hard drive and then burn a RW disk and watch the new movie. If all is well, and usually it is, then I burn a DVDR for my backup and second house copy and go from there.

I like to use dvdinfopro and scan for read errors. 10ish mins and you have a complete check of your backup disc.
"Pull your tongue out of my ar$e hole Gary...dogs do that. Your not a dog are you Gary?"
"Err no...."
"But you do have all the characteristics of a dog Gary...all except loyalty."
