  1. Hi
I keep going round and around, looking at the different forums and threads that others have been sent to, and send me to, but I find it very difficult to get an answer in lamens terms.
What I really want to know is - I have a PCTV Pro which I was hoping to use to convert VHS tapes over onto my PC with the intention of burning onto DVD.
I have connected it up using an SVideo cable and to be honest the picture quality is terrible. The picture is very grainy and there are lines going across which look like sound bars.
Could anyone please give me some common sense advice on this card as I am going nuts with it.

    Thanks for any help.

Have you set the correct video format. NTSC is you're unfortunate enough to be in the US or PAL if you're in a civilised country.

If you've got PAL-I selected, that's correct. Is it only S-Video that's bad? It might be the source, most non-SVHS video machines don't output an S-Video signal. Have you tried using composite, the quality won't be quite so good but when the source is only VHS you'll never notice the difference.

  5. There are actually 5 different PAL settings.
    PAL
    PAL M
    PAL N
    PAL DK
    PAL l
I have tried each one of them and seem to get the best results from PAL N.
I connect up with an svideo lead connected to a skart adaptor into the video. How do I connect up by composite?

Cheers a lot for the help M8

Yellow phono plug on scart adapter to yellow phono socket on TV card. I don't know why PAL N looks better as PAL I is correct for the UK (although N may give you a better picture but worse sound).
