  1. OK, it was a stupid thing to do but it was late and I was tired. I was using MGI Videowave 4 on a laptop to capture a meeting using an old analog camera. It had worked fine all day and I had some decent footage at 320x240. However, last take of the day ( and naturally the most important) I blacked out momentarily and closed the laptop rather than close the application.

Now I have a 2GB avi that is clearly a bit bent. Videowave reports it as having only 6 frames. Not being any kind of expert I have blindly thrown every 'fix' tool I can find at it but I always end up with a 2GB file that plays perfect black for half a second.

Is there a magic tool/procedure out there somewhere, or have I blown it ?

Not sure if this is the right forum but all suggestions would be much appreciated.

as a video file is always sequential (independant of the codec) it doesn't matter if the file is ended properly. it can be a problem if you reach the end. so i suggest convert it till a few secs before the end, and it should be okay. no fixing needed. this may not work for all software, but i think tmpeg can do it.
    success, i hope it works.

  3. Tried that but it comes back with " . . . unsupported file type . . ." and won't load. Same with Virtualdub.
