  1. What do you guys think are the best settings to record analog video which can been done in a hurry? I know that most people say to record at 352x480 but then when you compress it to divx or xvid with a program like virtualdub you have to put on filters on it to make it full screen which makes the encoding take at least 5 times longer. I just want these shows to burn on cd and watch on another computer.

I have been using virtualvcr with huffy codecs 352x240 YUY2. I know this is much lower quality but at least I can watch it full screen.

Is there a fast way to take 352x480 and make it full screen while converting to xvid?

  2. 352x480 is a used for capture by those that want to put their video on DVD. This makes it readable by DVD players and also does not waste the extra pixels(720x480) on a VHS capture.

If your going to create an Xvid or Divx (which I think uses square pixels standard), you do not nead to follow those rules. Use a resolution that is closer to your aspect ratio.

  3. If you're in a hurry you should use a capture card with hardware encoder -- many of them let you capture right at that resolution with no need for post-processing.
