  1. I came across this on PCWorld.com:

    DVD Recorders Do Double Duty

The latest DVD recorders do a lot more than just burn content to DVDs. New models let you play and record VHS video, while others add hard drives and programming guides to give you TiVo-like functionality.

And there's more to come: On the horizon are DVD write-once discs from both major rewritable camps (DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW) that nearly double current capacity to 8.5GB, up from 4.7GB.

By year's end, you may also start to see DVD recorders using blue laser technology, which can raise capacity to a whopping 23GB per single-sided disc.
It all sounds good to me! I especially like the idea of a single DVDR/VCR unit. I've got too many gadgets already....

I wonder how many people are going to buy into the "dual layer" formats when blu-ray discs are coming next year? Both HP and Dell (the 2 biggest PC makers) say they are going to start putting blu-ray drives in their computers next year.

  4. That makes sense. A 23GB drive has a lot more uses than just storing high definition DVD video.

Only problem is I already have two DVD drives in my comp already to support all these different
+ and - formats. Things can only get worst.
